Girls Inc. equips girls with the knowledge and skills to identify and report misconduct, providing safe environments where girls feel supported and comfortable speaking out about their experiences.
This summer Madison attended the Be Bold Institute, our summer day camp for girls ages 13 -18. She was awarded a full camp scholarship, which allowed her to attend camp. Her mother reached out to Girls Inc. looking for a summer program that would help Madison regain her self-esteem and become more confident.
Guest speaker Suzan Nguyen came in to talk to the girls about adversity and making the most out of difficult life experiences. A message that resonated with Madison to open up about her personal struggles which originated from family problems and abuse. Many of the girls rallied around Madison, encouraging her for opening up. Slowly she regained her confidence and self-esteem, developing healthy and positive relationships with other girls at camp, staff, and volunteers.
As a partner of Girls Inc. of Greater Houston you can give the Gift of Camp for the Holidays. We currently offer camp scholarships to girls who want to attend our spring and summer day camps but have limited resources. For many girls, like Madison, a scholarship is the only way for them to attend camp. You can help send girls to camp by donating to the Camp for the Holidays drive. While any amount is welcomed and will help send girls to camp, a gift of $500 will fund a whole camp experience for one girl.
