Our society’s concept of gender and sexual orientation has changed drastically over the last decade. Since 1972, Title IX was signed by the U.S. Department of Education to help women and girls ensure educational equality, and equity in schools. The purpose of Title IX is to protect students against sexual harassment, discrimination, and sex-based violence.
But what about gender? Does Title IX protect LGBTQ+ students?
As of June 2022, there has been new regulations and proposals to change Title IX to incorporate protections for LGBTQ+ students. There are also new proposals to protect pregnant students.
