The Torres Sisters

From Afterschool Programs to Professional Success: The Torres Sisters’ Girls Inc. Journey

A Family Legacy of Empowerment

The Torres family’s GIGH story began years ago at Houston Academy, where Estefania (now 23) first participated in our afterschool programs. From the start, she showed the curiosity and drive that GIGH programs are designed to foster. Her journey continued at Chinquapin Preparatory School, where she remained connected to GIGH, soaking up every opportunity for growth.

Estefania’s hard work and dedication paid off in a big way during her senior year of high school when she applied for the prestigious Girls Inc. National Scholarship. Not only did she apply—she won! The $20,000 scholarship opened the door to a world of possibilities.
Her younger twin sisters, Victoria and Sofia (now 18), followed in her footsteps, attending GIGH summer camps, including Camp SMART (STEM Camo) and BBI (Be BOLD Institute). Together, these experiences sparked their passions, strengthened their confidence, and deepened their bond as sisters.

Returning to Give Back

Estefania’s GIGH journey didn’t end when she graduated. After earning her degree from Bryn Mawr University, she returned to Houston in the summer of 2023 to give back to the organization that supported her dreams. During her internship with Girls Inc. of Greater Houston, Estefania worked closely with GIGH President and CEO, Treopia Cannon, and staff to refine her professional skills, including updating her resume and connecting with local professionals. Estefania was hired by one of our corporate partners.
Today, Estefania is thriving as a Sustainability Analyst with Halliburton, where she uses her education and passion to make a difference in her field.

The Next Chapter for Victoria and Sofia

Now high school seniors, Victoria and Sofia are carving out their own paths while staying rooted in GIGH programming. Both are actively participating in Project Accelerate, which prepares young women to navigate the college application process and beyond. Like their older sister, they are setting their sights on the 2025 Girls Inc. National Scholarship—and we have no doubt they’ll achieve great things.

A Sisterhood That Lasts a Lifetime

The Torres sisters’ story is a testament to the power of opportunity and the strength of sisterhood. Reflecting on their time with GIGH, they shared:
“Girls Inc. has brought a lot of opportunities to us and allowed us to have experiences we wouldn’t have had otherwise. It has also brought us closer together as a family and is something we all cherish and take pride in being a part of.”
From afterschool programs and summer camps to scholarships and internships, GIGH has been there every step of the way, empowering the Torres sisters to dream big and achieve even bigger.

Inspiring the Next Generation

The Torres sisters remind us of all that when girls are supported and empowered, there’s no limit to what they can achieve. Whether they’re blazing new trails in sustainability like Estefania or preparing to take on the world like Victoria and Sofia, the Torres sisters embody the Girls Inc. mantra: Strong, Smart, and Bold.
Stay tuned—this is just the beginning of what these remarkable young women will accomplish!
